Writing Tips

I will add little writing tips here as I think of them but my best writing tip is to learn the craft – take courses, go to workshops, talks, publishing events…anywhere where you can learn.

I took lots of online courses with the University of California.

I attended the Festival of Writing at York run by The Writers’ Workshop. Harry Bingham who runs it is very knowledgeable, no-nonsense and helpful with a great team behind him. It is a brilliant opportunity to network with other writers, agents and publishers. I’m speaking there this year (13 September 2014) on a panel – Ask Us Anything – with my lovely agent, Clare Wallace from Darley Anderson. Please do come and say hello if you see me floating about, even if you don’t come to the panel, I’d be delighted to meet you.

I attended workshops with clever novelists/teachers:

Adriennen Dines

Adrienne Dines stands out for me – she is brilliant at making sense of jumbled ideas and pointing you in the right direction.

allie-spencer

And Allie Spencer was excellent at clarifying the elements that make a good romantic comedy.

And if you are writing romance, you simply cannot miss out on the Romantic Novelists’ Association for its excellent parties, networking opportunities and New Writers’ Scheme.
